Description Educational Instruction Provide a safe and healthy
school environment. Provide direct and indirect instructional
support to students in a positive, flexible program and
environment. Employ special educational strategies and techniques
during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and
perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory. Utilize a
variety of instructional techniques and technologies to modify
curriculum to make it accessible to each student. Devise strategies
to reinforce and differentiate learning based on student's
individual needs. Effectively communicate lesson goals and
directions to students, assistant, staff and volunteers. Plan for
absences by creating an easy to follow sub plan. Social-Emotional
Instruction Teach socially acceptable behavior as determined by the
students' Individualized Developmental Plan (IDP). Consistently
seek out strategies to engage students. Model a calm demeanor for
children and teach self-regulation through deep breathing and other
Conscious Discipline strategies. Advocate for Students Seek out
knowledge to further understanding of each student in regards to
functioning level, communication and academic abilities. Be aware
of individual dietary issues, allergies and health concerns.
Documentation Develop reasonable and achievable IDP goals based on
state standards and student need. Assess and document progress of
IDP goals. Document behaviors of concern, relay concerns and share
documentation with Lead Teacher and Administrator as necessary.
Maintain accurate and complete student records including attendance
and grades. Prepare written progress reports, according to the
school's framework. Take photographs of classroom and activities
for use in newsletters and in the classroom portfolio. Document
Incident Reports as they happen and follow Incident Reporting
Protocol. Planning Develop activities and lessons to achieve
progress of IDP goals and curricula based on state standards.
Submit weekly lesson plans to the Lead Teacher by Thursday prior to
the upcoming week. Gather materials in advance to be prepared for
lessons. Coordinate events with other teachers and assistants.
Supervise, Assist and PlaySupervise and assist students at all
times including: lunch, snack, playground, toileting, diaper
changes, walks, field trips and emergency drills. Play with
children on the playground, extending play by planning games and
following students' lead. Organization Collaborate with staff
members on indoor/outdoor preparation and cleanup daily and for
special events. Adhere to the cleaning schedule to ensure a healthy
environment for children and families. Maintain a clean playground
by picking up trash, throwing away broken toys, and informing Lead
Teacher of any potential hazards. Organize playground toys prior to
returning indoors. Parent Communication Establish a positive
relationship with all children and families. Inform parents of
child's progress through verbal and written communication including
the IDP, progress reports and daily, through agenda books. Schedule
meetings as needed. Involve parents and communities to support
learning. Staff Communication and Team work Serve as a member of
the multidisciplinary team as appropriate. Work as a team player,
taking initiative to help with tasks, share space and materials,
and offer support and constructive criticism for the benefit of the
whole staff. Work as part of an academic team with the Teacher
Assistant to communicate regarding student work, lesson plans,
transitions, staff breaks, and safety issues. Train and guide
volunteers by giving explicit direction and correcting mistakes.
Professionalism and Ethical Conduct Approach problems in a
constructive fashion, taking initiative to correct problems
whenever possible. Treat every student with dignity and respect;
serve all children without bias or favoritism. Adhere to the Code
of Ethics at all times. Meetings and Trainings Attend mandatory
weekly staff meetings and required trainings. Seek out continuing
education opportunities via publications, coursework and
conferences. Ensure certification is kept up-to-date.
Follow-through with Therapy Accept and follow directives given by
therapists to adhere to therapy goals. Physical / Environmental
Factors Perform job duties with the following attributes:
Moderate/Medium Lifting and Carrying, Climbing, Stooping, Kneeling,
Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, the ability to hear the
conversational voice (with or without a hearing aid), the ability
to see and read newsprint (with or without corrective lenses), to
speak and be understood under normal circumstances. The employee is
frequently exposed to communicable diseases. General Perform other
